Study Abroad in Cebu

10th grade: July-August 2022 (4 weeks)
I embarked on a month-long immersion program at "IDEA CEBU," a language school in Cebu, Philippines. Living in the school dorm, my perspective expanded through daily discussions with Filipino teachers, who introduced me to a side of English and cultural values I had never encountered in America. A pivotal part of my journey was visiting a slum, where I had the humbling opportunity to connect with children while participating in aid distribution.
The experience in Cebu was a profound awakening, starkly contrasting with my time in the U.S. and igniting a deep curiosity in the cultures, histories, and social fabrics of English-speaking Asia. The image of the children in the slum, their faces full of joy amidst dire poverty, is etched in my memory and gave me a firsthand understanding of this critical global issue. Witnessing the struggles of volunteer groups operating with limited resources drove home the importance of corporate social responsibility. This journey crystallized my ambition: to leverage technology and business acumen to create sustainable, scalable solutions to pressing social challenges.
