Interpretator at Yushima Tenjin Shrine

Volunteer

11th grade (2 days)

I volunteered as an interpreter at Yushima Tenjin shrine, assisting international tourists. Working at the information desk, I used my English to guide visitors and engage in cross-cultural conversations, which was both a rewarding experience and a practical application of my language skills.

This role brought me face-to-face with a critical issue: the striking lack of English-speaking staff at Japanese tourist destinations. This experience crystallized my belief that this is a major educational hurdle for a globalizing Japan. It prompted me to compare Japan's English education with that of other nations, leading me to the firm conviction that our system is in need of drastic reform. This volunteer work transformed my interest from simple language proficiency to a deeper desire to investigate and improve educational and social systems.
